BSc (Hons) Speech and Language Therapy interviews for 2020 entry
Congratulations on being selected to attend an interview for the BSc (Hons) Speech and Language Therapy course at Manchester.
We take a values-based approach to interviewing candidates for the course. The interview itself takes the form of Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI). Further information on these can be found on the MMIs page.
Confirming attendance
If you are able to attend the interview at the time and date you have been given, you will need to confirm to us that you can attend by accepting the interview on UCAS Track.
If you cannot attend your interview on this date, please let us know immediately so we can try to arrange an alternative date.
Email: ug.slt@manchester.ac.uk
Phone: 0161 306 7601
Students applying for both September 2020 and September 2021 entry (deferred) should note that interviews will be held between December 2019 and early March 2020.
Interview location
Please report to the ground floor registration desk of Jean McFarlane Building, which is building number 92 on the campus map.
The largest car park near to the Oxford Road campus is The Aquatics Centre (car park B). However, parking is limited in all locations and we advise you to use public transport where possible.
The Jean McFarlane building has a ground floor foyer and seating area where any parents and guardians are welcome to wait should they want to. You will be in the interview and other activities for around two hours.
Please ensure you arrive promptly, although there is no need to arrive any earlier than the time stated. Prompt arrival is necessary to conduct the cycle of interviews. There may be no further slots if you are late.
What to bring to your interview
Please bring the following items with you so we can make the appropriate checks before your interview:
- photographic ID: we accept a passport, a provisional or normal driver's licence, or a birth certificate. We will be unable to conduct your interview without one of these;
- copies of your GCSE/A-level/Access or degree certificates: please bring a full set of photocopies for us to keep.
Accessibility requirements
If you have any long-term health condition and/or disability support needs, please let us know as soon as possible by email (ug.slt@manchester.ac.uk), so we can consider any reasonable adjustments that need to be made to ensure you have fair access to our interviewing process.
You must also contact the Disability Advisory and Support Service on 0161 275 7512 or at dso@manchester.ac.uk at least two weeks before your interview, so they can assess if all of your needs will be met.
You will need to provide them with suitable evidence of your disability. They will then inform us of any arrangements that need to be made for you.
Ill health before or on the day
If you are unwell and cannot travel to your interview, please let us know immediately and we will reschedule for you, where possible.
Occasionally, candidates arrive for the interview even when they are feeling unwell. If you are feeling unwell when you arrive, please tell the admissions staff before the interview and we will be happy to reschedule if possible.
Please understand that the department cannot accept pleas of ill health after the interview has taken place.
After the MMIs
Following the MMIs, you will be able to talk to the admissions tutor and some of our current students for around an hour. This will take place in a group discussion format with the other candidates who have been interviewed on the same day as you.
You will be able to learn more about the course, and our students will answer any questions you and other candidates may have about studying at Manchester. You will also be taken on a short tour of the campus by our students before you leave.
Next steps and our decision
At the end of the interview process, the interviewers complete various assessment forms to arrive at a final score. However, they will not collate the information to reach a decision. This is done later by the admissions administrator and admissions tutor.
This means that you will not be given a decision on the day of the interview. All applicants will be informed of our decision via UCAS Track.
All offers are conditional upon the achievement of the appropriate grade in any forthcoming examinations (if you have not already satisfied our academic requirements for entry), and upon completion of health screening and Disclosure and Barring Service checks within the specified timeframes.
